J4K IS SO PROUD AND HONOURED TO KNOW SUCH A YOUNG INSPIRING MAN, HELPING OTHERS LESS FORTUNATE - Inspired by the pictures of young children from an orphanage in Kibera, Nairobi, who were playing football in bare feet and with crisp packets for goalkeeping gloves; 2 years ago, Tom Burstow from Plymouth, then 11yo, sent a parcel containing football boots that he had outgrown to Kenya, assisted by Just4Keepers; and he is at it again.
During the intervening period he has outgrown another 13 pairs of boots, some football clothing, a set of training bibs and footballs. In January he packaged up his surplus equipment and sent another parcel to Kibera.
He has been assisted in Nairobi by Just4Keepers (Kenya) coach and ex-Kenyan international goalkeeper George Opiyo, who arranged collection and presentation of Tom’s gift to the Kibera Angels Sports Academy. Founded in 2017, the Academy seeks to help children from disadvantaged backgrounds in the slums of Kibera gain life skills, escape social crimes, and develop their talents through sports.
Tom, now 13yo, is a goalkeeper in his own right and plays for both Ivybridge Community College Academy, where they are the reigning Devon Schools Champions, and Chaddlewood Miners U15s, as he is playing a year above his own age group. J4K are his gloves of choice and he currently has 5 pairs so that he always has a pair available and to suit every occasion, whether that be on match days, training, wet weather or playing on 3/4G.
